1. Know your audience: The only reason you make money through affiliate marketing is because you sell customers something that they want. Target audience is very important to become a successful affiliate marketer. You need to know what your audience wants and why they keep coming back to your blog and website. Make sure that you offer them something that solves their problem.

Also, the products that you sell on your blog or website show go with the theme of the blog, for example if you’re reviewing technology then don’t put ads and banners for chocolates or maybe clothes. The more relevant the ads are to your reader, the more likely they will open them and use them.

Researching about your target audience helps you target them better. The more you know about their demographics, interest etc the better you can advertise the products to them.

2. Trustworthiness: Promote products on your blog that you believe in. If the readers feel that you’re promoting something on your website only for-profit motive then they will lose trust and stop visiting your website. You need to develop a relationship based on genuine content so that people keep coming back to your website. It’s the loyal visitors that drive traffic. They are the ones that spread the word and recommend your website to others as a place for valuable information.

3.Be Helpful: Create content on your website that is helpful, informative and useful. An affiliate link is there only to compliment your content.

You can add testimonials and case studies to add value to your content. By doing this the content becomes more personal and readers can relate to it better. You can add your experiences with the product and then put the affiliate link with it just to point the reader in the right direction. Adding links without any context is just not helpful and drives the readers away from the blog.

4. Try Different Programs: If one program doesn’t seem to be working out for you then move to the next one, don’t remain stuck to one. There are a number of other programs, explore them. Different programs offer different products and services and they have different ways of conducting the affiliate program.

You should also check out your favourite vendors to see if they run their own affiliate program. Going to the vendor directly is sometimes better than joining an affiliate program.

5. Stay Relevant: Keep up to date with the latest offerings of your affiliate programs. Don’t get lazy about using new ad units, advertising techniques and tools. All this goes a long way in motivating action by readers. Explore new opportunities and make use of the latest trends. Also, be on the look out for new products and services that are relevant and useful to your consumers. If something is not relevant and popular anymore then take it off your website and blog.
